The Office of National Statistics figures show that Web purchases now account for 6 percent of all UK retail sales.
This means that in December 2002 the Internet sector grew at a rate of 19 times that of the high street shops.
Online shopping in the UK accounts for about £1 billion and is rising, whereas high street shopping covers about £16.5 billions – and recently that figure is plummeting.
